A short, plain-language guide to buying retro consoles from ConsoleVaults — grading, photos, testing expectations, and where to go next.
What you are buying
ConsoleVaults lists individual retro consoles, handhelds, and related collectibles. Most listings are photographed units — not stock photos — so you can judge cosmetic wear before checkout.
Each product page shows brand, platform, item type, condition, price, and shipping context. If something is unclear, use Contact before you order.
How we grade condition
Condition labels are practical, not auction-house jargon:
- New — sealed or clearly unused / factory-fresh presentation when stated in the listing.
- Open-box — opened or lightly handled; expect near-new cosmetics with notes called out in photos or description.
- Used — previously owned hardware. Expect honest wear; we highlight scratches, yellowing, stickers, or missing parts in photos when present.
- For parts / repair — power-on or full function was not confirmed; buy only if you can diagnose or restore.
Testing & photos
Where the listing claims a working console, we power-on and basic-function check before listing when hardware allows. Cosmetic close-ups are part of the listing so overseas buyers can inspect without guessing.
If a unit is sold as parts / untested, that will be stated plainly in the title or description — do not assume full function.
Region, voltage, and what’s included
Retro hardware often differs by region: cartridge shapes, AV standards, power bricks, and language on shells or menus. Read the listing title and photos for the exact model code (for example SCPH-5903, Korean GameCube, iQue GBA SP).
Unless a listing says otherwise, assume what you see in the photos is what ships — cables, boxes, and games are included only when shown or named.

Yes for typical listings — ConsoleVaults photographs the individual unit. If a listing ever used catalog imagery, that would be stated clearly.
What does “used” mean on your site?
Previously owned hardware with honest cosmetic wear. We call out yellowing, scratches, stickers, or missing parts in photos or the description when present.
Do you test every console?
Working listings get a power-on and basic-function check when hardware allows. Parts/repair or untested units are labeled so you do not assume full function.
